[Character Information] Permissions Post: Rui Yamase
Rui Yamase is a fortune teller by trade, but in truth she's actually a past-and-future telepath, which means that, by touching a character and activating her ability, she can read either a part of their past, or a small, vague segment of their future, fortune-teller style. She also has some memory-tweaking power. Her abilities, split into those three segments, are as follows:
Fortune-Telling
- Rui touches the character and activates her ability.
- She is able to view some segment of the character's future.
- Typically she views something related to what the character is thinking about; for example, a customer thinking about who they will marry will get a future of what their wedding might be like.
- Here is a sample of Rui's fortune telling.
- In Luceti: Because of the limitations of an RP, obviously Rui can't predict a future that I, as her player, am unaware of. Therefore any future-telling will be planned ahead of time through OOC communication. If the players involved agree, she can predict things like pre-planned kidnappings, player plots, and, on occasion, vague details of already-announced events. However this ability will be severely dampened to avoid it being abused.
Telepathy
- Rui touches the character and activates her ability.
- She is able to view some segment of the character's past.
- What she views can vary, but it's usually some sort of powerful memory, something a character feels strongly about; as an example, she touches a character in-game and sees a murder that character witnessed.
- During this vision, Rui feels and sees whatever the character saw, both emotionally and physically. Depending on the depth of what she sees, it is also very draining and wears her out.
- Here is a sample of Rui's telepathy. (Slight spoilers, if you care.)
- In Luceti: This ability won't change, though she won't be able to delve as deeply as normal without practice, and will likely exhaust herself if she tries too soon.
Memory Recovery
- Rui touches the character and activates her ability.
- She is able to restore sealed memories the afflicted character.
- There's no indication that Rui witnesses these memories; her ability is only a trigger for memories that already existed and were locked away for whatever reason.
- In canon she is shown only to restore memories sealed away by another telepath, but since it's stated that Rui is a very powerful telepath, it's possible that her abilities run deeper than that.
- Here is a sample of Rui's memory restoration. (Again, spoilers- this time for the end of the game.)
- As noted in the video, Rui is also able to restore her own sealed memories if she's triggered by something related to those memories, such as a picture or object.
- In Luceti: This ability won't change, though it will take more effort to restore any sealed memories. Naturally that would require player permission, and as with the fortune-telling ability, usage of this power should be pre-planned.
As I stated above, Rui is mentioned to be a very powerful telepath in canon, but she lacks experience and her willingness to use it often wavers. Other telepaths or those with particularly strong willpower can stop her from digging too far into their minds, so that's something else to consider.
Filling this out isn't required to thread with Rui! She has to activate her abilities to use them against your character, and she won't do that unless I have permission here. Also, I typically won't have her activate the ability willy-nilly, but rather will ask when I think it's a good time, unless Rui would ICly just go ahead with it, something she's done before.

Is your character a telepath, or do they have mental barriers they can put up? Not a telepath, but has some instinctive resistance to things being in his head thanks to vampires. He probably can't keep her out, but she could likely feel some auto-resistance to entry.

If yes to the above, what would she see? Probably flashes of his life as a vampire hunter, plus more recent ones from Luceti, especially of people he cares about here.

Is your character a telepath, or do they have mental barriers they can put up? No.
Can Rui read segments of your character's past if she touches them? Absolutely.
If yes to the above, what would she see? War. Death. Him flying his aircraft. The landfall of the Ulysses Asteroid fragments and the resulting devastation. Thirteen sifting through debris and ruined buildings looking for survivors and the dead. On the positive side, she might see him playing guitar in a bar filled with his squadronmates including Yellow 4 and the narrator from AC4. Aside from the more peaceful moments, Dave's head isn't a pretty place to be in.
Rui can also see into the future. Would you allow this if you have something planned for your character? Hard to say. Dave's dead back home and he knows it, so any future comes strictly from Luceti. Even I'm not sure what will happen to him here, but if you want that to be a thing, we can do that.

That aside, it probably bears noting that Joshua actually does have sealed memories! If word about Rui being able to restore memories ever gets out somehow, he may be interested in speaking to her about that someday - his inability to recall these memories clearly is something that bothers him immensely, so it's possible that he'd actually be interested in having them restored at some point in the future.

If yes to the above, what would she see? ...Depends on how far back you're willing to go. Grune's current life hasn't gone on for all that long, but if you want Rui to see her previous cycles, pretty much the sky's the limit.

Even if that's a huge part of Jacqli's psyche, Rui's abilities should override it (mostly because she wouldn't be entering the cosmosphere at all), though she will have a fair amount of resistance.

If yes to the above, what would she see? Akzeriuth, of course, as this is a big part of Luke's past. If you don't want her to see something so traumatic, though, you could have her see him cutting his hair. Also, Van telling him that he's a "poor, pitiful replica" whose only purpose is to deviate from the Score.
Alternatively in Luceti, you can also go with Luke and Xion's first kiss as well as Asch's time as Luke's brother.

Meeting Senel, and other memories that surround him such as seeing him swim so much and realizing what it's for, their first kiss, him holding her in his arms while she dies... also her death. And if you'd like, she can see all that torture going on in Vaclav's place too.

Is your character a telepath, or do they have mental barriers they can put up? Goemon is not a telepath. In a state of deep meditation, he has been shown as being impervious to a 'suicide beam' - when this same laser was shot at other people, they instantly killed themselves. So, if she ever attempted to tap into his thoughts while Goemon is in a meditative trance, my guess is that it wouldn't work. That said, for every other occasion, he's perfectly vulnerable. :P

If yes to the above, what would she see?Goemon's story is kind of a lengthy one. We can talk when the occasion arises - I think that'd be best. :)

Character Canon: Pandora Hearts
Is your character a telepath, or do they have mental barriers they can put up? He is not. He does have a sort of mental barrier, but it's not something that would prevent Rui from using her powers. Basically, his most painful memories are sealed!
Can Rui read segments of your character's past if she touches them? Yes.
If yes to the above, what would she see? There are a couple things she could see! 1) The night he nearly died protecting his servant. He was stabbed through the chest by this ugly thing (http://i55.tinypic.com/2e3ocxt.jpg). His servant also forced him to drink the blood and make a contract with that same ugly thing. 2) The night he murdered two of his older brothers. The important things to note were the burning mansion, the blood everywhere, and, oh, the fact that they were beheaded.
He's still from early in his canon, so there are a few more things that might be applicable in the future. We can discuss that if it ever comes up, haha. :| Anyway, these are memories that have been sealed due to his chain, Humpty Dumpty. They're still there, and he is capable of remembering them, but it is very difficult to do so, because his chain is constantly trying to make him forget. If it wasn't obvious by the tl;dr, I would find it incredibly fascinating if he and Rui ever have this kind of interaction.
Rui can also see into the future. Would you allow this if you have something planned for your character? Sure. As far as canon stuff goes, there are the deaths of his sister and his mother, as well as his own death. No plans for Luceti at the moment, but we can work that out when the time comes. o/

Not a telepath, but like Kurt, she has telepathic blocks in place (courtesy of Charles) as a sort of defense against other telepaths. So yes, it won't be impossible to access her thoughts, but she'll likely find it a little more difficult than normal.

Can Rui read segments of your character's past if she touches them? Yes, though she's going to be a little paranoid around her if she gets to know what she can do. A lot of her memories are classified information and traumatic stuff.

We'd probably plan it out as we go along, since there would be a lot of things she has been trying to keep secret (and failing sometimes, due to circumstances, such as in the Luceti AU Shift). Examples would be her kidnapping, her augmentations and seeing deformed friends, seeing her clone and thinking of killing her, warfare scenes where every human is dead or suffering...
She has her share of good memories involving her original family, Spartan trainees, and victories against other teams and against the Covenant. But as mentioned above, beside holding classified information, she has issues.

I'm not sure what would happen. She is dead in her world, and I'm not sure if Rui would be able to see the things that happen in her canon after she's gone. For this ability, they'd probably be things for Luceti -- And open for plotting.

If yes to the above, what would she see? Marco's canon events: including Marineford -- Massive One Piece spoilers. Highlight to read. Marco is a phoenix and fought to save his best friend from the execution stand. He failed, his bff died, as well as some of their allies, and then he had to watch his father get murdered by a traitor/ex-crewmate who started the whole thing by killing Marco's other best friend a few months previous to Marineford. You mentioned she'd see it from his POV, and I have those written out for an old event, if you ever want it. (It's long so I tried to sum it up all at once.)

Roger's execution where he smiled. -- Smoker was 12 at the time, and it's what convinced him later to chase Luffy all over all over the world. (And into other worlds given Luceti??)

Character Name: Fujiko Mine

Is your character a telepath, or do they have mental barriers they can put up? Not exactly, but she's canon hard to see through even for telepaths. Usually she gets a device, or she just has her own sort of mind-mazes that get thrown up. She's also extremely paranoid and hard to get close to.
Can Rui read segments of your character's past if she touches them? Yes though see above; it'll be difficult.
If yes to the above, what would she see? A LOT of adventures with Lupin III. Some grand heists. Snippets of wars Fujiko's been in (usually as a pilot, but also shooting and sometimes secret agent.) It would take a LOT of digging (like a lot of work) but Rui could possibly get down to the parts where Fujiko was an assassin and some of the people she lost (Poon, her ex-boyfriend she had to shoot and kill, her "brother"(s) who either betrayed her or were killed, ex-allies etc.) -- that would be almost into memory recovery aspects however and Fujiko would not react happily. Like her paranoia would get a lot worse.

It wouldn't block her telepathy, I wouldn't think, but if he can't access his memories I wouldn't think she could either.
