★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★
Skills:
-groundskeeper and gardener: he grew up tending to the graveyard of a Wildmother temple. he's great with plants
-funeral director: he knows how to arrange a burial and prepare a body for it.
-counsellor: an excellent listener, able to offer advice, comfort to the bereaved or distressed, and a cool head in difficult situations. he's well-versed in the graveyard equivalent of customer service and can handle grief in all forms
-chef: he's an excellent cook, often taking care of meal prep within his family and the adventuring party
-herbalist: with the right tools and materials, he can create healing potions and potentially a variety of curatives
-fashionable: he has an eye for good design and colours; his clothes are beautiful and he (according to Jester) did the majority of work when they needed new outfits commissioned for a fancy party
Canon Abilities: Caduceus is a level 13 cleric of the Grave domain, subject to standard rules of Dungeons & Dragons 5e. His full list of spells are outlined on his Wikia. His summarized abilities are as follows-
As a firbolg:
-he can detect magic
-disguise himself temporarily
-briefly turn invisible
-has a powerful build
-can speak with plants and animals (one way, they understand him)
As a cleric:
-he can heal, revive the dead, commune with nature and his goddess (naturally limited in FM)
-can cause harm through elemental or radiant/necrotic magic
-can buff, support, or otherwise grant abilities to others around him
-has a unique cantrip Decompose which allows him to expedite decomposition of dead things to grow fungus/moss/flowers in a short span (sometimes vines on a large corpse)
Specific limitations for game-breaking purposes:
-he'll have his power through the Wildmother but direct communication won't work (eg. Commune and Divination)
-spells like Command & Scrying would require out of character permission and don't work on Thirteen's iterations (naturally)
-Plane Shift/Banishment don't work since they're locked to this plane
-those are the big ones but most of his stuff is otherwise fine
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Caduceus will have a small flowering vine woven around the back of his head, like a chain between his ears. His wings manifest as leafy/insect wings, somewhat iridescent, veiny, and gossamer when summoned. When he dismisses them, they wither away and dissipate into ash until next time. The colours shift slightly with the seasons. Very natural. A bug cow man.
Seasonal Colours:
-winter = blue and white
-spring = shades of green
-summer = purple and pink
-fall = red and orange
Role Reasoning: Caduceus easily fits the stereotypical qualifications for Legend. He is arguably the most morally "good" out of all of the Mighty Nein, and is looked to as the source of many positive decisions and just council. He is stable with his ethics and principles, and believes wholeheartedly in acting in a way that will benefit people and the world. He also strongly believes in the good people are capable of; it isn't that people are inherently good or bad, but that what they do that makes them good or bad, and his own actions speak for themselves. He does not reject negativity, greed, or arrogance in others, but it's just not who he is. And when someone is in need and he's capable of helping, he requires no further incentive to step up.
★ Personality ★
Option 1.
Caduceus is a kind and open person, free with his thoughts and opinions on just about anything. He will share misgivings about acts or behaviours he witnesses, occasionally judgmental but nearly always expressed in a gentle enough manner that he gets away with it. Sometimes he can view people as a "project", but he is in nearly all cases acting in good faith, with a wholehearted belief that people deserve the opportunity to grow beyond who they are into who they can become. He spends a good deal of time and effort into cultivating growth in people with the same patient enthusiasm as he grows gardens; he is both gardener and caretaker of living souls around him, whatever form they take. When advising, he tends to not tell people what to do, but he asks both vague and specific questions that cause them to reflect upon themselves and their choices.
As a grave cleric who grew up tending to a graveyard and temple of the Wildmother, he has strong beliefs in nature, growth, and the cycle of life and death. The only thing that seems to trigger active disgust in him is acts of genuine, open cruelty, the defilement of nature or his religion (eg. burning down a temple gets him real mad) or the undead. He grew up isolated from the world, very sheltered, and while traveling was initially shaken by the cruelty he witnessed, and disturbed by how dark life could be outside of his bubble. Over time he grew more adjusted to it, and he would not try to fix people but rather began working towards removing as much of that darkness he could, and leaned into the idea of helping others help themselves. He strongly believes that evil an be culled and cropped from people because they have the capacity for good. As he says, people are not good or evil, people are people. It's actions that are good and evil, and those can be changed.
He is very honest. He doesn't like lying, nor is he very good at it. He prefers to omit truth, and if necessary, deception is done through "acting". He can disguise himself well to look and act like others. He is often the quiet one in a group, preferring to listen and only speak or interject when he has something significant to contribute. Travelling in a group of incredibly strong personalities, he may be soft spoken but he speaks with conviction so his words are never lost.
He is the most selfless of the group, in Caleb's words; he frequently goes to great lengths to acquire or purchase items and then give them out to those who could use them most. A long-term goal of his throughout the journey was to remake the remnants of a great sword, carrying it across continents and for many months, and as soon as it was reforged he immediately gave it to Fjord who had great need of it at the time. He purchased a number of magic items and gave the bulk of them away to the rest of the party. He describes his family and religious following as gift givers, and he walks the walk with a kind and unselfish heart.
Regarding potential, in truth I don't think Caduceus will have a real picture about what his full potential will look like, and neither do I. He's very steady, stable, and does not change much over the course of his journey. He opens himself up to discovering the truth of the world, and he faces it boldly with only a few hiccups. It's very likely that he would view his potential as continuing to help others to grow towards their own potential, with his own development taking a back seat as it usually does. He's content with being a guide and helper, and since he is guided by the will of his god he won't feel any pressure to impress whatever Thirteen is. We'll see if Folkmore is capable of shaking him up in ways canon could not.
