Noctis: Canon / Headcanon
Because I am a forgetful asshole, this is for my own organizational purposes.

HISTORY/LORE
Noctis Lucis Caelum is the 114th in the line of kings (CXIV). His father is Regis and his mother is Aulea, both deceased at his canon point. Regis died during the signing of the Niflheim treaty, and Aulea died when he was an infant.
-he was born August 30th, M.E. 735/736 (H1)
-He was born too early. (H2)
-His early birth is one factor that contributed to his size and struggles with gaining control of his power.
-Aulea died within a few weeks after he was born, due to complications following giving birth to him. (as discussed w/ Neko and Sierra)

Regarding Council Meetings and Princely Duties
-While he lived in the Citadel, he is described as well-mannered, polite, and "an exemplary prince". (H4)
-While he was in school, Ignis typically took notes for any kingdom-related issues and passed them along to Noctis so he'd be aware of the political situation as heir to the throne.
-He spent some sporadic time throughout his life accompanying Regis to council meetings, if it was appropriate.
-It happened less after he befriended Ignis, but still on occasion, especially after the Marilith attack.

-amidst all the mess expected of a 15-year-old living on his own, his apartment had a TON of books, sparse decoration, a baseball bat, a laptop, really nice couch

-He met Gladio later in life, most likely closer to age 8-10. They could have seen each other here and there prior, since their dads worked so closely together, but it isn't shown. Gladio was not impressed by what he saw.
-They managed to develop a tenuous friendship after Noctis rescued Iris from the woods and took the fall and punishment for the misadventure in her place, and it grew from there.
-According to the dossier, Gladio officially became Crownsguard (and therefore Noct's Shield) at age 18.
-Gladio's mother may have died close to when he started training Noctis, which contributed to his rather spiteful attitude towards Noctis, despite Noct not doing all that much to earn said hatred beyond being a literal child. Regarding the Kingsglaive
-created originally to protect Noctis as the Chosen, over time the focus was shifted to be the main defensive/offensive force of Lucis outside the walls

-due to his charity work involving refugees, his awareness of the Galahd crew is mostly word of mouth and stories of the "heroes", but he didn't spend much time with them in person.
PHYSICAL TRAITS
Regarding Tenebrae and the Marilith injury:
-After the attack he was unable to walk for some time, dealing with partial paralysis. He was either in bed or in a wheelchair for his entire stay in Tenebrae and is never shown walking or moving his leg.
-Soon after his arrival the Oracle purged him of the Starscourge which (alongside Carbuncle's aid) allowed him to finally wake up and begin the healing process in earnest, both mental and physical. He found most of that comfort with Luna rather than the healing power of her mother Sylva, the Oracle.
-Immediately following the attack, he was treated in Lucis, but soon after transported to Tenebrae while trapped in a Starscourge-induced coma, since no amount of medical treatment could get him to wake up.
-Magic was used to stabilize him, modern medicine helped him slowly heal and manage his pain, but that was all.
-Much of the damage done to his body, particularly his spine, was too delicate to treat instantly with potions, which is why he was still showing significant injury and an inability to walk throughout the healing process.
-For the short span he was in Tenebrae, he came to view Sylva as something of a motherly figure, as he'd never had one before.
-Due to Niflheim's assault on the manor, they had to leave before Noctis was finished healing, which contributed to his lingering physical issues, as well as his trouble with getting his powers to work properly.
-After fleeing from Tenebrae, It took him the better part of a year to fully recover between completing the healing process (as they left before his injuries were fully healed), physiotherapy, and lingering pain and disability of his injured limbs. This is why he's learning the barebones basic of training at age 10 with Gladio.
He has lingering physical issues thanks to the Marilith attack.
-The way he walks may be considered odd-looking, and he limps on occasion. Check his walk cycle compared to his comrades.
-As per the dossier, "An injury incurred as a young boy deprived him access to the full potential of his innate power."
-He still deals with sporadic chronic pain and general discomfort from touch. These issues extend to his back and leg mostly, and he struggles with chronic pain and stiffness. Supported by: how he flinches away from hands on his back, his restless idle animations in and out of the car, his hunching rest posture, the way he sits/crouches. He's never on his knees if he can help it. (P1)
His left armguard/bracer is more to support his stronger hand and act as a defense than support him, since it's not on his previously-injured hand but rather the left side.
His warp range is limited to:
-50 feet armed
-30 feet unarmed (AKA non-weapon warp)
-950+ feet to Ardyn at endgame (sure ok noct)
-these ranges are without targets; with a specific target in mind, he can warp much further away.
His right hand is dominant, but he is to an extent ambidextrous.
-The natural handed-ness is a given considering it's his throwing arm and main side for combat, but he's been taught to dual-wield daggers with equal efficiency, and due to his injury on the right side as a child, he had to learn how to use his left during his recovery.
-He typically switches when lingering pain causes his right hand to tremble a little. It's more minor compared to his back and leg issues, but still noteworthy.
He often wears a knee brace on his right leg, under his pants.
-Hence why he's usually in more baggy clothes.
-He doesn't always wear it! He typically knows in the morning if it's going to be a bad leg day.
-It's not too clunky but built to support him while still letting him do his wacky acrobatics in combat. (P2)
The Covenant Marks are physical scars on his left arm. (P4)
-these markings are usually hidden beneath his arm brace.
-they look like this! He has all of them except Ifrit.
Regarding Weapon Training and the Royal Arms:
-Noctis was formally training growing up with the primary weapon types: swords, broadswords, daggers, polearms, guns
-Prompto helped him learn how to use the machinery-type weapons during their journey, but he doesn't prefer them as they're too slow and can't be used for warp strikes
-through the bonding of souls, Noctis gained at least a base understanding of how to use the unusual weapon types comprising many of the Royal Arms that he wasn't trained to wield while growing up. Similarly to when he was "taught" to learn the Ring of the Lucii spells after putting it on, acquiring each Royal Arm and having it fused into his soul and his Armiger imprints some training and wielding tactics, giving him the instincts to use them without starting off at level 1 as far as skill level. Mastering each weapon still requires training and practice, but I think of it as getting a level boost in proficiency.
Food/Preferences
-Noctis CAN be convinced to eat vegetables! It's not as much of a chore as it seems. A few of his favourite recipes prominently include vegetables. The trick is to mix the dish in a way that he can't taste it- for example, the meat wraps (literally just tacos) has everything mixed up in a way that it would be impossible to separate the vegetables, so Noctis just eats the dish as is. Sort of like getting a cat to eat his meds.

Regarding the Crystal
-when Noct was drawn into the Crystal it's implied that his body is temporarily transfigured into energy and remained as his known form for the duration of his time there. This could just be a development decision (to not have to show his age until the reveal or have multiple models as he ages gradually) but I'm accepting canon as it was shown.
-Dawn of the Future novel confirms that Noctis is not only the spitting image of Somnus but Bahamut under the mask; Noctis is unaware of this, but this implies that Bahamut may have played a part in the shaping of either king, OR that his face takes the form of his chosen. Future Noctis' facial differences could also be attributed to Bahamut having to reconstruct him from energy after dropping him out of the Crystal, and the face he knew best was Somnus' and his own. Messed up! But a fair explanation for those shared attributes. (P8)
-while in the Crystal, Noctis was shown the memories of everything that occurred in the history of the star, thanks to absorbing the memories through the Crystal's power. Basically anything that occurred while the Crystal existed in the world, he gained that memory. (P5)
-most of these memories lay dormant after he regained physical form due to such a huge amount of information being overwhelming to a human mind. His soul could handle it inside the Crystal, but outside, with a normal brain? No way. He remembered enough to fulfill his destiny and died before any complications could arise. (P6)
-Due to being alive and outside of the Crystal in RP, memories left buried are starting to emerge. They flare up into his consciousness at random, resulting in awkward situations and conversations; Noctis has started to track these instances now that he knows they're happening.
Catelogued Memories So Far Regained
1) Pre-June 2020: Upon noticing a lost button, Noctis sewed it back into place. When he was done he realized he'd completed a complex stitching pattern he'd never learned before, one totally unnecessary for sewing on a simple button. This was the first memory he regained and didn't realize it was an issue; he assumed he was just lost in thought and made a mess of a simple stitching.
2) June 2020, Here, he saw Ardyn's daemonic face

Regarding the Kingsglaive
-created originally to protect Noctis as the Chosen, over time the focus was shifted to be the main defensive/offensive force of Lucis outside the walls
-Noctis knows some of the Kingsglaive but hasn't spent a lot of time around them since childhood beyond some warp training
-due to his charity work involving refugees, his awareness of the Galahd crew is mostly word of mouth and stories of the "heroes", but he didn't spend much time with them in person.
PHYSICAL TRAITS
Regarding Tenebrae and the Marilith injury:
-After the attack he was unable to walk for some time, dealing with partial paralysis. He was either in bed or in a wheelchair for his entire stay in Tenebrae and is never shown walking or moving his leg.
-Soon after his arrival the Oracle purged him of the Starscourge which (alongside Carbuncle's aid) allowed him to finally wake up and begin the healing process in earnest, both mental and physical. He found most of that comfort with Luna rather than the healing power of her mother Sylva, the Oracle.
-Immediately following the attack, he was treated in Lucis, but soon after transported to Tenebrae while trapped in a Starscourge-induced coma, since no amount of medical treatment could get him to wake up.
-Magic was used to stabilize him, modern medicine helped him slowly heal and manage his pain, but that was all.
-Much of the damage done to his body, particularly his spine, was too delicate to treat instantly with potions, which is why he was still showing significant injury and an inability to walk throughout the healing process.
-For the short span he was in Tenebrae, he came to view Sylva as something of a motherly figure, as he'd never had one before.
-Due to Niflheim's assault on the manor, they had to leave before Noctis was finished healing, which contributed to his lingering physical issues, as well as his trouble with getting his powers to work properly.
-After fleeing from Tenebrae, It took him the better part of a year to fully recover between completing the healing process (as they left before his injuries were fully healed), physiotherapy, and lingering pain and disability of his injured limbs. This is why he's learning the barebones basic of training at age 10 with Gladio.
He has lingering physical issues thanks to the Marilith attack.
-The way he walks may be considered odd-looking, and he limps on occasion. Check his walk cycle compared to his comrades.
-As per the dossier, "An injury incurred as a young boy deprived him access to the full potential of his innate power."
-He still deals with sporadic chronic pain and general discomfort from touch. These issues extend to his back and leg mostly, and he struggles with chronic pain and stiffness. Supported by: how he flinches away from hands on his back, his restless idle animations in and out of the car, his hunching rest posture, the way he sits/crouches. He's never on his knees if he can help it. (P1)
His left armguard/bracer is more to support his stronger hand and act as a defense than support him, since it's not on his previously-injured hand but rather the left side.
His warp range is limited to:
-50 feet armed
-30 feet unarmed (AKA non-weapon warp)
-950+ feet to Ardyn at endgame (sure ok noct)
-these ranges are without targets; with a specific target in mind, he can warp much further away.
His right hand is dominant, but he is to an extent ambidextrous.
-The natural handed-ness is a given considering it's his throwing arm and main side for combat, but he's been taught to dual-wield daggers with equal efficiency, and due to his injury on the right side as a child, he had to learn how to use his left during his recovery.
-He typically switches when lingering pain causes his right hand to tremble a little. It's more minor compared to his back and leg issues, but still noteworthy.
He often wears a knee brace on his right leg, under his pants.
-Hence why he's usually in more baggy clothes.
-He doesn't always wear it! He typically knows in the morning if it's going to be a bad leg day.
-It's not too clunky but built to support him while still letting him do his wacky acrobatics in combat. (P2)
The Covenant Marks are physical scars on his left arm. (P4)

Regarding Weapon Training and the Royal Arms:
-Noctis was formally training growing up with the primary weapon types: swords, broadswords, daggers, polearms, guns
-Prompto helped him learn how to use the machinery-type weapons during their journey, but he doesn't prefer them as they're too slow and can't be used for warp strikes
-through the bonding of souls, Noctis gained at least a base understanding of how to use the unusual weapon types comprising many of the Royal Arms that he wasn't trained to wield while growing up. Similarly to when he was "taught" to learn the Ring of the Lucii spells after putting it on, acquiring each Royal Arm and having it fused into his soul and his Armiger imprints some training and wielding tactics, giving him the instincts to use them without starting off at level 1 as far as skill level. Mastering each weapon still requires training and practice, but I think of it as getting a level boost in proficiency.
Food/Preferences
-Noctis CAN be convinced to eat vegetables! It's not as much of a chore as it seems. A few of his favourite recipes prominently include vegetables. The trick is to mix the dish in a way that he can't taste it- for example, the meat wraps (literally just tacos) has everything mixed up in a way that it would be impossible to separate the vegetables, so Noctis just eats the dish as is. Sort of like getting a cat to eat his meds.

Regarding the Crystal
-when Noct was drawn into the Crystal it's implied that his body is temporarily transfigured into energy and remained as his known form for the duration of his time there. This could just be a development decision (to not have to show his age until the reveal or have multiple models as he ages gradually) but I'm accepting canon as it was shown.
-Dawn of the Future novel confirms that Noctis is not only the spitting image of Somnus but Bahamut under the mask; Noctis is unaware of this, but this implies that Bahamut may have played a part in the shaping of either king, OR that his face takes the form of his chosen. Future Noctis' facial differences could also be attributed to Bahamut having to reconstruct him from energy after dropping him out of the Crystal, and the face he knew best was Somnus' and his own. Messed up! But a fair explanation for those shared attributes. (P8)
-while in the Crystal, Noctis was shown the memories of everything that occurred in the history of the star, thanks to absorbing the memories through the Crystal's power. Basically anything that occurred while the Crystal existed in the world, he gained that memory. (P5)
-most of these memories lay dormant after he regained physical form due to such a huge amount of information being overwhelming to a human mind. His soul could handle it inside the Crystal, but outside, with a normal brain? No way. He remembered enough to fulfill his destiny and died before any complications could arise. (P6)
-Due to being alive and outside of the Crystal in RP, memories left buried are starting to emerge. They flare up into his consciousness at random, resulting in awkward situations and conversations; Noctis has started to track these instances now that he knows they're happening.
Catelogued Memories So Far Regained
1) Pre-June 2020: Upon noticing a lost button, Noctis sewed it back into place. When he was done he realized he'd completed a complex stitching pattern he'd never learned before, one totally unnecessary for sewing on a simple button. This was the first memory he regained and didn't realize it was an issue; he assumed he was just lost in thought and made a mess of a simple stitching.
