Series name: My Hero Academia
Canon notes: Chapter 73, prior to the villain attack
Species: Human
History: Ochako's Wikia page is here.
Since the Wikia lacks history, to summarize:
Like many others in her world, Ochako has a power known as a "Quirk", which manifested when she was a young child. She grew up with parents who were loving but generally poor, and their struggle for success led her to seek out the life of a career hero in order to make enough money to give them a better life.
Ochako is introduced during the Entrance Exams to U. A. High, during which she is trapped under some rubble and is saved by Izuku. She then tries to convince the judges to share her points with Izuku, but conveniently, his rescue of her (and her rescue of him, afterwards) results in them both passing the test and becoming members of Class A.
She quickly befriends Izuku and Iida, forming a bit of a friendship trio and keeping company with them in and out of class whenever she's allowed. Her successes at school are pretty average overall.
Some noteworthy experiences in canon:
- During the first school trip, a group of villains attack and she uses her power to help Iida escape in order to find back-up.
- When the school festival takes place she makes it to the final event, her performance average and supportive up until then. The last event is a versus match, and despite her best efforts she is defeated by Bakugou in the frst round.
- She chooses the codename Uravity and goes for workplace training with battle hero Gunhead to learn how to fight more effectively.
- She passes her end-of-term test via a fluke- her test partner, Aoyama, asks if she loves Izuku and she ends up accidentally attacking their opponent through her embarrassment.
- During a schoolmate shopping trip she interrupts a conversation between Izuku and Shigaraki, the main villain, and prevents Izuku from being hurt further.
- While the class is away at a training camp all of the students are ambushed and attacked by villains, and Ochako works with Tsuyu to prevent their opponent from killing them.
- After Bakugou’s capture she tries to dissuade the group trying to rescue him from getting involved, stating that they should leave it to the professionals, and ultimately stays out of it.
- Once the class moves to live in school dorms, she helps to organize some fun activities to distract everyone from the seriousness of their situation, and afterwards supports Tsuyu when she confronts the rescue group about their decision to disobey the pros, as well as confess her own lack of support for their desire to help.
- Current canon shows her working on special battle moves with the rest of her class.
Ochako is probably considered the main female character, but a secondary character overall, so her involvement is somewhat limited, comparatively.
Personality:
If you ever need a summary of Ochako’s personality, you need only look at her name. Bright, concise, the epitome of a sunny disposition, Ochako is all about energy and enthusiasm. She's almost always smiling, and she thrives on encouraging and befriending others. Before she is even introduced by name, she demonstrates care and a desire to help others- she uses her power to keep Izuku from tripping, cheerfully wishing him good luck despite the highly competitive nature of the entrance exam they were both about to take (and him being a rival for her chances, essentially). On top of that, once she finds out that he failed to earn any points because he saved her in the exam, she tries to share her points with him. Her focus is supporting people above all else, even to the detriment of her success. Her power is anti-gravity and it reflects her personality- she often exists to lift up (and cheer up) those around her. Without being explicitly stated, it's pretty obvious that she follows the creed of “grin and bear it”- even when she's upset or nervous about something, she does her best to work through it without worrying those around her by bringing attention to it, sometimes to the point of lying to conceal her true feelings. If pressed, she will usually open up to certain people, but she's not typically up front about it. She also fumbles with her words sometimes, but she is always kind and sincere when it matters.
Ochako can be pretty fearless when it comes to approaching people and striking up a conversation- she gets along with just about all of her classmates despite varying personalities and rivalries, and she sticks by her friends pretty much no matter what. It doesn't matter what the situation is- whether it's a harmless competition (eg. when she chose to team up with Izuku at the sports festival team challenge despite knowing he'd be the greatest target) or during a villain attack (when Tsuyu used her quirk to fling Ochako out of danger, she chose to come back and fight rather than escaping alone). In her own words, “I would rather be with friends”. Later on she admits that part of her reason for deciding to team up with Izuku is because she thought he might be able to come up with a plan of how to win, but at the core of it, she loves being with her friends more than winning.
Despite her charms, Ochako isn't entirely kind; she speaks her mind when she has opinions about other people pretty much no matter what, sometimes with alarming frankness. When Aoyama asks her out she nonchalantly tells him she doesn't even know who he is, and later on she doesn't hesitate to point out when Iida shows inconsistency in his behaviour (wanting to be class president and yet voting for someone else), as well as essentially calling him a class president nerd stereotype. She can on occasion have a sharp tongue and a defiant attitude, and in general she doesn't apologize for it, either. She's not afraid to be a bit of a sneak (she feigned innocence while Bakugou raged about losing the school president election, when she was one of the three to vote for Izuku), and she shows an incredibly competitive streak when the sports festival was announced, telling Izuku and Iida that they should “kill it”, and even they are startled by how fired up she is about it. When Ochako gets serious about something, she can get pretty intense- multiple times characters have commented on the scary faces she makes when she's getting down to business.
When the situation calls for it, Ochako can set aside her smiling nature and deal with whatever is coming at her with a fair degree of seriousness- when battling Bakugou during the sports festival, she puts up a hell of a fight and came up with a strategy all on her own, despite Izuku offering to let her use a plan he'd devised based on her power. She wanted to win on her own rather than depending on him all the time, in order to grow. After she's had proper on-the-job training and a few life-or-death situations thanks to the multiple villain attacks U.A. has experienced, she's able to act quickly on her feet and utilize those lessons pretty effectively in real combat. She's not always the best at coming up with strategies on the fly, and her skills are still early stage at best, but she's determined to improve, if nothing else.
Abilities: As mentioned above, Ochako has a "Quirk", a type of mutation/ability that manifests in nearly all humans by age 4. Her Quirk is known as "Zero Gravity". Basically whatever she touches with the little pads on each fingertip of her hands has its gravitational field removed. There seems to be no limit of what she can cause to float, nor how many items she can float at once, but there is a cumulative max weight limit of around three tons. If she pushes her limit too much or overuses her power, she gets nauseous/sick and, in the worst cases, is unable to move for a while. She also gets sick if she makes herself float, so it's definitely a power in need of refinement. She can stop whatever she's used her powers on from continuous floating by pressing her fingers together (which she calls Skill Release).
