Casey Jones | Canon/Headcanon
Since so little is known about Casey or the apocalypse timeline, this is for tracking purposes of established facts and stuff I've had to make up. (I have the memory of a sieve. This is to spare myself embarrassment later.)
Black is confirmed canon
Blue is headcanon extrapolated from canon (eg. supported by subtext or creator word, or makes logical sense with what we're shown) OR is quasi-canon from bonus cut content
Red is headcanon I or the RoTMNT cast made the heck up with zero or very limited basis and y'all gotta deal with it
IM NOT DONE WITH THIS SO THE COLOUR SHIT AINT HERE YET ill do it later
Canon or Canon-Adjacent Bonuses
-Casey was sent back from 2044, NYC, near the wreckage of the Statue of Liberty. He arrived in NYC 2020, in Times Square (a)
-Cassandra Jones is Casey's bio mom, and she died when he was young so he hardly remembers her (b)
-He was raised mostly by Leo after Cassandra's death (b)
-The Krang did something corrosive to the atmosphere that made it difficult to breath in heavily infected areas. Without trees, oxygen is also very scarce. Casey's mask doubles as an air filter. (c)
-His mask has several functions beyond its protective nature: GPS (a), air filter/rebreather (c), scanner
-The last recognizable survivors on the final day of the resistance were Leo, Mikey, April, Draxum, Sunita, Warren, Hypno, Todd, and grown-up Baxter Stockboy. There's also a moose mutant not featured in the show (intended for season 3, Monty Moose) (c)
-Casey's cloak used to have literal cloaking technology, but it was damaged during his escape from Krang, so it no longer works. (c)
-The most recent main base for the resistance was near the remains of the Statue of Liberty. It had protective blast doors and a decently robust population, but numbers were dwindling. (c)
-Casey is about 5'3". (He's the same height as Donnie in multiple movie caps, sans the goggles/mask, and Donnie is officially that height.
-Casey is ambidextrous. Throughout the movie he frequently changes his staff positioning to right or left and which hand he utilizes as his dominant. He uses his right hand if there's no reason to switch between.

CASS APOC
I borrow a lot of story beats/scenarios from Cass's Apocalypse Series over on Tumblr, because it's the most thorough and sequential apocalypse series arc that I'm familiar with. (Also it's really goddamn good.) Here are some noteworthy Casey things I've taken inspiration from the series:
-his mask acts as a storage device for a lot of information from the apocalypse timeline and many specific files Donnie wanted him to have (mostly from since he acquired the mask); this includes blueprints, instruction manuals, security recordings. Donatello modified it to be ready for Casey's 14th birthday but died before it could be given to him. There's still a lot on there that he doesn't know about or hasn't been able to unlock yet.
-he knows some sign language, but the 3-fingered turtle variant
-he doesn't really know much about the circumstances of his birth, nor does he care.
-Donatello calls him Casey Junior; in return Casey calls him Uncle Tello.
-he considers Leo pretty much his dad, but only ever calls him sensei. The others are collectively uncles, even when he uses titles.
-he has rudimentary sewing skills; he can repair damaged clothing, but design or new construction of outfits is beyond him.
Headcanons NOT used from Cass Apoc:
-Casey never had a (temporary or secretly permanent) oozesquito turtle form. that whole arc is a no-go
-obviously the revival arc has not occurred and could not occur since it's not like I can canon-update-
-Casey was never (temporarily) infected or a Krang zombie. he didn't show any indication in the movie that someone infected could be saved.
-the turned-into-child arcs weren't a thing for Leonardo or Donatello
Random Personal Headcanons
-Raphael used to share his salvaged teddies with baby Casey
-he doesn't remember really using the title of "dad" directly to Leo, but he definitely thinks of him that way. He's Master Leonardo on the battlefield, because it's important to keep up that separation and focus in a fight. Similar to the turtles themselves, the word "sensei" is essentially a synonym for dad.
-he knows a smattering of Spanish and Japanese but only in the same way Leo/the other turtles do (aka random words/phrasing and "Anata wa hitori ja nai")
-Leo lost his arm protecting Casey while he was too young to remember it happening. To Casey, Leo's just always had the prosthetic. All the other turtles (Leo included) have made up various different stories to explain the lost arm over the years. It's a game to them, all so Casey never found out it was due in part to Casey himself.
>One version they told is that he accidentally portal-chopped it himself
>Jokingly, that when he misbehaved Splinter took it away and wouldn't give it back
>it was bitten off by a Krangified subway train
-His gear were birthday gifts provided by Donatello:
>grappling hook = age 11
>chainstick = age 12
>invisibility cloak = age 13
> modified mask tech = age 14
-He really likes the music group Palladium Drones, which is electric house music, because it's (one of?) Donatello's favourites, and he played it a lot in his lab while Casey was growing up.
Turtle Traits Casey adopted
Leo:
-some sass absolutely rubbed off on him, just in smaller bursts
-training techniques, ninja ability, athletics and acrobatics
-very stubborn
Donatello:
-technology know-how (to a certain degree)
-attention to detail
-can be a little more goals-oriented rather than empathetic when it comes to certain situations
Raphael:
-lecture capacity/leadership qualities (eg his throwdown at Leo in the tunnel)
-struggles to function alone, went right for help when left on his own in the past
-a good listener
Michelangelo:
-kindness/sincerity
-will say some harsh truths to get things done
-easily freaked out in a crisis / hides behind the others more often
Folkmore New Experiences
Just so I can remember the stuff he's got in progress.
Significant Foods:
-burritos
-pizza(!)
-hot chocolate
-mac & cheese
-sushi
-not-dogs (courtesy of Hunter)
-flavoured popcorn
General:
-swimming (learning)
-art (learning)
-baseball (ball-destroying)
-flower pressing (making a book)
-parkour (hella experienced)
-karaoke (unskilled)
-personal aesthetics: hairstyling, nail painting (ALL IN)
-dancing (smitten)
-movie musicals (awesome??)
Scars:
-long slashes across his lower back
-large bite marks on his right arm
-puncture wounds on left arm (in and out, arrow shot)
APOCALYPSE TIMELINE (so I can keep track. 90% of this is headcanon via cast discussion or inspired by the comic timeline.)
-2020: the Foot Clan steals the key and opens the portal dimension, freeing the Krang and allowing them and the Technodrome to come to Earth. The Krang begin assimilating humans en masse and taking over New York.
(This is the year Casey Jones is sent back to and where the bifurcated timeline starts.)
-2020-2029: lots of fighting. A summary of rough, undated events:
-Leo loses a good portion of his ninpo to the Krang's powers. (The others may or may not have as well.) Eventually, it is regained, but in limited capacity. He mostly fights without portals unless he can muster mystic energy in emergencies. (d)
-the Hidden City is discovered and invaded, destroying one of the last bastions of safety for the people of Earth.
-Mutants, yokai, and humans begin to co-exist and work together to fight the Krang. It's dicey, but considering the yokai/mutant magic at play as the most effective weapon against the Krang, the humans get the heck over it.
-Splinter dies, probably fairly early. If the brothers hadn't taken the invasion seriously before, they sure did after that.
-2029: Casey Jones Jr. is born to Cassandra Jones, on November 24th. Who's the bio dad? Who knows. Who cares. He's probably dead.
**Space had the brilliant idea of it being Cassandra's MTF girlfriend and considering the collective agreement that Cass is peak lesbian energy I respect that theory so much
-At the time Leonardo is busy leading the resistance, Donnie is disinterested, and Mikey is working with Draxum to enhance his ninpo. Raphael spends a lot of time with younger Casey and they form a bond.
-2035 (early): The Krang discover their main base, and Leo loses his right arm during the attack while protecting Casey. Raphael stayed behind to guard their escape and was lost for a time. Due to heavy losses and recovery efforts after the fact, they weren't able to find him. (Interference or damages at the time prevented Donnie's trackers from working.)
-Cassandra was on a perimeter check at the time and never returned. Her mask was discovered with her body later on; she had died right before the attack took place, so no one was alerted to the Krang's approach. Leo takes over as Casey's primary caregiver, though it was always in part a group effort and will continue to be so throughout Casey's lifetime.
-due to the trauma from the base attack, for a period of time after this, Casey is almost entirely nonverbal. This is where he started to learn limited sign language, to communicate his needs.
-Within a few months Raphael reaches the new base, mortally wounded. The other turtles combine their ninpo to save his spirit, but he inevitably passes.
-Raphael's soul is transferred into a mystic artifact that is stored in a robotic body Donatello built, and the brothers are reunited. Casey was scared of him at first, but he came around quickly with Leo's encouragement. This is the version of Raphael he remembers best.
-thanks to the combined efforts of Leo's care and reuniting with Raphael, Casey comes out of his shell (so to speak), his communication is back to normal, and he begins learning how to fight from Leo. He's about 6 at the time.
-2036: while out on a mission, Raphael and Leo are trapped in a collapsed tunnel. Only Leo is able to escape. The area is overrun by Krang monsters shortly after, and Raphael's robot body shuts down and his signal is lost before they can recover him. His absence during this time is why Casey doesn't know/can't remember Raphael very well.
-2041: while out on a training mission Casey falls down a shaft and stumbles upon the abandoned robotic body of Raphael. He's able to reactivate the robot, and Raphael is recovered once again. Casey's old memories of him are foggy, but they're able to bond again and create new ones pretty quickly.
-2042: Donatello is infected with a specialized Krang virus and begins to degrade over time. No one is able to find a cure.
-Rather than go out quietly, Donatello infiltrates the Technodrome (against the wishes of the other brothers, obviously) in order to infect it with his own virus. He fails and dies in the process, but he does enough damage to slow the Krang attacks for a time, buying the resistance some time to grieve and reorganize all the security systems he ran. Despite his preparations, much of the base's functionality was dependent on his ninpo, including food growth enhancement, so life in the resistance grew more desperate over time.
>Donatello died November 17th, a week prior to Casey's birthday
-2043: Due to extended critical power loss (due to the above-noted function issues), the resistance settlement is losing its ability to function. Raphael opts to use his body as a power source, effectively killing him. It keeps the resistance alive until some time in 2044.
-2044: The last resistance base is discovered and destroyed, putting the survivors on the run. Leo and Casey escape the chaos, but Leo is mortally wounded. The whole resistance has its last hurrah against the Krang and goes down fighting. Draxum dies. April O'Neil dies. Big Mama dies. Michelangelo dies opening the time gateway, and Leonardo dies throwing Casey through it, sending him back to 2020.

(d) Casey didn't seem used to seeing the portals when present!Leo used them in the movie, and Leo only had the 1 sword. Since it's established that Leo can make new swords out of whatever the heck he wants with ninpo, it tracks that he'd be having ninpo issues preventing portals and an additional sword being made. With all the Krang took from him, he'd have zero reason to intentionally hold back his greatest weapon.
