Lup / Twin Headcanons

SO VERY SUPER MUCHLY A W I P

PERSONAL HEADCANON:

-One of Lup's favourite foods is Taako's special chocolate oatmeal granola cookies. It was the first recipe he memorized for her, and he made it whenever he could when they were little.

-Lup is a couple inches shorter than Taako.

-Lup's hair is long and pale blonde, and has highlights at the tips. As a result of a misfired enchantment of her youth, her highlights change colour daily. She's learned to adapt her wardrobe to match accordingly. The colours cycle through the gemstones/shades associated with each planer reality. (purple-blue, red, blue-green, yellow, orange, black, white, dark purple, green, pale blue, dark blue, pink)

-Lup 100% has the capacity and knowledge to be a queen of fashion the way Taako is, but a lot of days she goes "fuck it" and throws on whatever's comfortable, matching, and functional. She doesn't have her brother's patience for sorting through eighty colour combinations and accessories. She manages to make it look damn fine, regardless, but she prefers to dress up only for special occasions.

-The IPRE red robe is enchanted to protect against natural damage or decay via time. (pulled from Gerblins episode 5- only the robe survived the decade inside the cave)

-How many times has Lup died? more than Taako, less than Merle, bit less than Magnus? Do the lich deaths count?
-I figure Lup has died about 15-20 times throughout the Stolen Century, plus once more in Faerun. After the lich transformation she was less cautious about risking her life than she used to be, so she's probably on par with Magnus, but more than Taako. Her number of deaths were closer to Taako's level prior to becoming a lich.

-Lup multi-classed at The Hanging Arcaneum, choosing artificer as her second class. In a sense all the seven birds were artificers that year, but Lup really embraced it, getting extra creative with her choice of materials and weaponry (case in point: choosing an umbrella of all things for her Umbra Staff), and her main focus was creating items that zero in on raw power above all. The Umbra Staff absorbs the power of defeated magical foes, growing in power each time, and the Phoenix Fire Gauntlet is a mobile weapon of mass destruction, wrecking entire towns. She likes being able to channel raw energy into items that use more raw energy. She also had experience with artificing before the Stolen Century journey, as infusing magical power into items like the self-replicating 15-dollar bill is literally artificing, not just transmutation magic.

TWIN HEADCANON:

-Taako and Lup's aunt is simply called "Auntie G". She lived on a farm outside of New Elfington, on the two-sunned world.

-Lup and Taako are at least 200 years old (100+ years on their world to reach elven adulthood + 100 years in the Stolen Century), minimum 212 with the added decade + 20 months on their current planet. For ease of memory I've rounded it up to 300, because who can even know with elves. Justin implied that Taako was older than he let on, due to childhood not really factoring into his backstory much.

-Both argue and insist that they are the elder twin. No one actually knows the answer.

-When they're using pet names, Taako calls her Lulu, Lup calls him Koko.

-Lup can do her own hair, in theory, but it's thick and wavy so it's better left in the expert hands of Taako, who knows how to work it.

When elves reach adulthood they are given the option to discard their childhood names and choose one for themselves. Since Lup and Taako have lived most of their lives outside of a traditional elven household, however, they've also discarded most elven traditions, and name-selection is one of them. When they were told about this tradition and prompted to make the choice, they both shrugged it off and continued to go by their childhood names. Lup and Taako are who they've always been, so Lup and Taako are what they'll continue to be.

While living at their aunt's, their cousins often gave them a hard time, since their presence caused said aunt to divide her attention between too many children. It often caused fights, and Taako especially (being more verbally biting) got beat up a fair bit. Lup intervened and became more aggressive because of her protectiveness of Taako, trying to keep him safe but mostly just splitting the damage between the two of them than save him from anything. Because of the fighting, the twins took to sleeping in the barn, lifting the ladder up to the left so the cousins would leave them alone. They cuddled up with some stolen blankets and each other for warmth.

During their time here Lup rescued a mouse from a trap and quasi-adopted it for a year or so. This eventually led her to learn the Find Familiar spell and an affection for small animals (which is why she was so down to chill with the mongoose family in the Animal Kingdom).

Find Familiar is how she was able to earn her keep in the caravans, since Taakos schtick was the magic cooking and it would be silly for them both to do the same thing. She learned cooking alongside him and assisted during his shows, but she would get her familiar to change shape and perform tricks for onlookers between other shows to earn spare coin. Once they were established wizards in the IPRE that spell no longer felt neccessary, so she stopped using it regularly.

Their parents died when they was really young- like 10ish, before the on-the-road-since-12 canon. After they died, a large portion of whatever funds they left behind was passed on to a high level wizard as payment for Lup's transition, which requires focus on a true polymorph spell for a full hour, plus the cost of spell components. Fees for services of wizards, especially those capable of 9th level spells, are pretty pricey. The rest of the funds were passed on to their grandparents, and they stayed with them a few years until the extra money ran out and they started their life of being passed around.

I figure Lup's parents were against the transition not because it bothered them but because she was still so young; they wanted to wait until she was older to make the decision, which is pretty common. Elves aren't considered adults till around age 100. Taako made the case to their grandparents when their parents died, since he understands Lup better than anyone and recognized that she didn't need time to think about it. They acquiesced because it didn't matter to them what she chose (on the condition that if she changed her mind the cost would be on her, because they're not made of money, guys).

As per the desire of both Griffin and Justin (Lup and Taako's creators respectively), Lup being transgender is not meant to be a cause of her transient childhood or trauma, just a part of her life. As they say, it's just a rough world.

Lup's female body is modeled after her own original form and Taako's, because elves are pretty androgynous to begin with and they were already beautiful (or cute I guess, being so young), she just wanted the physical change. Most differences appeared gradually as they grew into adults. This is why they are identical rather than fraternal despite being opposite-gendered twins- Lup is simply a female version of Taako.

I think Taako was with her during the spell as a way to help her to focus, to reassure her that it would be okay, and to keep her safe around a high-level spellcaster (as much as a 10-year-old could). She probably held his hand as they waited it out.
