There's been a bit of confusion in regards to Kazuto/Kirito's avatars and how much or little they resemble his IRL self, so I thought I'd toss together a little guide to clarify. The anime isn't very clear about the difference, but the novels are much better with it, so here's a quick summary of each!
S P R I G G A N
The Spriggan avatar, AKA the fairy form. This form is a bit shorter than Kazuto's regular body, but not much. Aside from the obvious pointed ears and hair, here are the differences that don't show well in icons:

Kirito's Gun Gale Online avatar is... well, I'll let him do it.
From SAO novel #5 - Phantom Bullet: "The height was even shorter than my Spriggan form, and more slender. The hair was still black, just as before, but now it flowed smoothly from the back of my head down to my shoulder blades. Like my hands, the skin of my face was pale white, with brilliant red lips. Although the color of my eyes was still the black of my previous character, they were much larger and shinier. In fact, framed by the long eyelashes, the innocently bewitching gaze that came back at me from the reflection was so different that I momentarily forgot it was me and looked away shyly. [...] Asuna used to tell me that the SAO Kirito had quite a girlish face, but this went way beyond that." (V5-122)
Yeah, he totally thought he was hot. A+ Kirito.
Short version:
His SAO avatar looks like his regular non-avatar'd self, so I won't get into that.

- Kirito's Spriggan form can summon translucent wings he can fly with.
- The vibration of his wings makes the sound of a "whistling woodwind" instrument. (SAO Volume 3-80) I tentatively headcanon this to be either flute or piccolo, because it's bitty and playful
and obnoxious. Leafa says it sounds like a high-pitched hum at first. (V3-78) - He has slightly darker skin than normal (the novel was pretty explicit about it- V3-70, V4-4, 140, 195)
- He has a slightly different voice- he was able to spend days with someone in-game who knew him IRL and didn't recognize his voice at all.
- Direct quote: "I didn't look anything like I did back then. My tanned spriggan skin and spiky hair were not at all like the old Kirito."

Short version:
- Shorter than Spriggan (which is already shorter than Kazuto) and slim-bodied
- Stereotypically effeminate/delicate features (long eyelashes, purple eyes, pale skin, red lips)
- His voice is androgynous enough to be mistaken as female (V5-124)
- Seriously Kirito checked himself out because this form is a hot chick
