Teito is pretty much everything to Mikage; best friend, brother, loved in too many ways to count. Teito is the one he died to protect, the one Mikage had his third wish fulfilled in order to keep safe. He is so important that instead of going to heaven like a good believer of God, he chose to be reincarnated immediately, even without a human form, so he could be with and protect Teito again as soon as possible. Mikage places a lot of value in Teito's happiness, which is why he's always finding new (and sometimes obnoxious) ways to make him smile. He doesn't give a damn who or what Teito is, and he's never had a reason to doubt their friendship; to him, Teito is the epitome of what a best friend should be, and nothing could ever keep Mikage from his side. He's earned Mikage's love and devotion.
